The Springfield Sonder Literary Magazine was established in 2017 and is an online publication, allowing students to explore the art of graphic design in addition to crafting a variety of fictional pieces. Students take pride in sharing their voices, experiences, and thoughts with peers through this medium in hopes of resonating and connecting with others.
Working on the Lit Mag team further provides opportunities to collaborate and manage responsibilities in preparation for future careers. As a team, students meet with the advisor weekly to draft, revise, and format writing into the online publication. By dividing tasks among editors, designers, and writers, students must communicate effectively and provide constructive feedback that encourages the growth of skills and individuals. During meeting times, students also participate in mini-lessons on creative writing techniques and group activities to foster a sense of community. Prior to publishing each edition, the advisor proofreads writing and communicates with administration about the content of all pieces to discuss the inspiration for topics and individual student experiences as needed. The Springfield Sonder refrains from limiting creativity but will thus prioritize student mentality and content source as fiction can often be derived from personal events. Overall, this publication aims to have students appropriately and effectively share their voices to a large audience. Archives
